UAA Council

"After two years as Local Chapter Coordinator for Germany and a year as Vice-President in the council, I was elected President during the 2011 General Assembly in Gothenburg. In this role, it is my responsibility to coordinate the work of the council and represent the association towards other stakeholders within the network.
Being involved in the UAA is a lot more fun, but also a lot more challenging than I expected before. The work with the council and the other stakeholders in the network is a good practice for management, team working and leadership skills. And it is very rewarding to see what we can achieve with the support of the entire network."

"What I like most about working with the UAA is the feeling of being able to contribute to a better UNITECH network. At the General Assembly in 2009, I was elected Local Chapter Coordinator for Sweden. That year, besides working on increasing participation within the Swedish Local Chapter, I also volunteered to work on the Strategic Task Force. The purpose of the Strategic Task Force was to define the strategic orientation which would guide the improvement efforts within the UAA. For me, the more long-term thinking within the Strategic Task Force complemented the day-to-day work with the Local Chapter. It was this experience that motivated me to run for Vice President at the General Assembly in 2011. I wanted to continue with the work of making our network even stronger."

"I initially took this role in the General Assembly 2009 in Aachen. During the first year I worked in a redesigned Newsletter, which was in pdf at that time and collected articles form all the UAA stakeholders. This form of sharing news with our members saw a new change after the Annual Reunion in 2010 and as a consequence of a Strategy Task Force aimed at identifying our members and stakeholders needs and interests. This is how the UAA Digest was created and since then I prepare an HTML based email newsletter, which intends to be catchy and easy to read, containing snippets of information linked to further sources on the web.

Besides these changes, UAA has also gone to social networks, being present both in Linkedin and Facebook. Our fan page in Facebook informs our members on a more informal way, whereas, we use the Linkedin group for professional interaction. Job offers from the UNITECH Corporate Partners are published there and they are increaing over time.

After my first 2 years of service, I decided to present myself for re-election as I still feel I want to continue to contribute to the UAA and the entire UNITECH comunity. What I enjoy the most is working with highly motivated people within the Council as well as the Local UNITECH Chapters. It is very rewarding and enjoyable for me to see that people put a great amount of effort and commitment, as well as develop top quality work, even if the work we all do for the UAA is called “volunteer”."

"In June 2010 I received an email from the UAA concerning the open positions in the council. When I read that the association was looking for a Financial Officer, I immediately thought this could be a perfect opportunity for me to support the UNITECH programme, to which I am very grateful, and also to strengthen my relationships within the UNITECH network, which I had somehow overlooked by that time.

As a financial officer, I take care of different duties, mainly related to the financial operations of the association and also to the management of the membership database. Although this might seem ordinary tasks, the strong team spirit and the passion of all the UAA members make working in the association a really great experience and a moment of personal and professional growth."

"In 2009 I joined the UAA council and took over the task of coordinating the (soon to be) 10 local UNITECH chapters around the world. This task includes linking the local chapter coordinators, keeping track of the local events, helping out where help is needed and adapt the LUC organization to present challenges. Before joining the council I had the chance to gain first UAA experience when I was replacing the current local chapter coordinator Germany for the time he was doing his internship in Shanghai for six month.

Working together with the highly committed local chapter coordinators and council members gives me pure motivation and enriches my life quite a lot. Also I find it very fascinating to position the UAA for the future and to tap the full potential of the Alumni network."
