Local UNITECH Chapters

A Local UNITECH Chapter (LUC) is a group of UAA members, UNITECH students and other UNITECH stakeholders living in the same city or area, building a network within the association. Currently, we have 9 LUCs with a total of almost 700 UNITECH people registered for one of them.

For each of the LUCs there is one LUC Coordinator (LCC) or a team of co-LCCs which offer activities on a local level and therefore keep the network vivid. They organize social and educational get-togethers as well as plan and execute events together with other LUCs or Corporate Partners. Their contribution has the most direct impact on UAA members and increases the quality of a UAA membership considerably.

To become a member of one of the LUCs, you just have to select the respective LUC in the UNITECH international database.

"Since joining the UNITECH family in 2006, I have had the opportunity to experience the power of collective contribution by observing how numerous individuals in our network offered their time, energy, ideas and enthusiasm for the benefit other members. These benefits come in the form of having the opportunity to forge valuable friendships, to participate in enriching and stimulating events, and to enjoy rewarding professional opportunities. Having already benefited so much from UNITECH, it is now my desire to contribute back through my role as LUC Asia so that others may also be able to have the same benefits.
The Local Chapter in Asia faces two challenges. Firstly, it is a very young local chapter and it is still in the process of finding its role and identity. Secondly, it is the smallest local chapter with its members located in different countries making geographical proximity a luxury. As the LUC of Asia for the coming year, I hope to address these two challenges by engaging the local chapter members in creating a role and identity which would best meet our chapter\'s needs. In addition, I also hope to act as a facilitator between chapter members and to be a contact point for students who will be coming to Asia for an internship. To all the members of the local chapter Asia, I look forward to hearing from you and to get to know you."

"When I found out that UNITECH in France was missing a Local Chapter Coordinator and that France was already with a foot out of the UNITECH shoes I just told myself: we can’t let this happen! I joined UNITECH in 2006, and from that moment I can say that my world changed. The first experience in Sweden over Chalmers was the first stepping stone, which hellped me develop both from a personal and professional point of view boosting my interestes and ambitions further. Soon after that there was China, where I performed my intership with SCHOTT AG in Souzhou. Coming back to Italy, I understood that «China» was a sort of business card when looking for job offers. During the selection interviews in UPC Barcelona I was recruited by ENEL, and I am now working for ENEL France in Paris as business developer.
This is why I can only say I am greatfull to the UNITECH program! I met wonderful people and had experiences that made me a braver and more undertacking person. For all these reasons I want to ensure that the French Network keeps alive and many other UNITECH students, Alumni in Paris will have the chanse to experience all what UNITECH is."

"Since the first time I got in contact with UNITECH in 2008 I knew that this organization is something special. This impression is reinforced during my stay at the UPC Barcelona, my internship with Schott in Mexico and at every UNITECH event I am attending. It’s the spirit and the openness of the people as well as the professional development I made with the help of UNITECH which makes UNITECH unique for me.

Every one of us is a part of UNITECH and especially the UAA, a vivid organization, is formed by us. I am very proud to participate and to contribute to the UAA as the Local Chapter Coordinator Germany."

"I started to get active in the UAA by participating in a number of local chapter events after coming back from my UNITECH internship in the fall of 2009. When Roman Stiehl, the LUC at that time, asked me, if I would like to take over the job of LUC Germany in 2010 I decided to take this opportunity to switch from only participating in events to organizing events myself and to bring in my own ideas of what to offer to the UAA members in Aachen. Since September I am officially elected as LUC Germany which I run together with Christian Wilms as a team where I am responsible for organizing the events and Christian is in charge of communication.
So far being LUC was a very interesting task and the teamwork is working out perfectly. I want to continue the good work within the chapter by adding more content to the events while keeping up the good spirit within the LUC Germany and strengthening the UAA network."

Regional Group Frankfurt

Since Aachen is a bit far away for some UAA members working in Germany, we have developed the idea of a regional goup Frankfurt, for all the people working in this area. The idea is to meet on a more or less regular basis for social events, exhibitions, presentations, or something else we will think of. If you are interested in joining the regional group, please send an email to Jan Reitz (jan-b.reitz(at)unitech-alumni.org).

"I signed up for the UNITECH programme to experience new cultures, and to be part of a European wide network of talented engineers. I had a wonderful year. I did my academic exchange at UPC Barcelona and I did an internship with Hilti in Liechtenstein. I found the difference in culture and lifestyle between these two places and Ireland to be fascinating. This UNITECH year was so exciting and enjoyable that when it came to the end, I felt I wanted more. Being a Local Chapter Coordinator for Ireland gives me an opportunity to indulge in the buzz of UNITECH for more time to come and to give something back to the UNITECH association. I am pleased to work alongside Ivan Rochford in nurturing the UNITECH network in Ireland."

"As one of the first Irish UNITECH students I am delighted to be given the opportunity to help lay the foundations for the fledgling UNITECH community in Ireland. I joined UNITECH in 2010 and have since spent a semester in RWTH Aachen and also 6 months working for SKF in the Netherlands. During this time I have had the opportunity to experience the benefits that UNITECH boasts of: personal development, connection with peers that are outgoing and talented, establishing industrial connections and most importantly of all making friends and having fun. I aim to prolong these benefits for the alumni in Ireland and to help maintain and foster the growing community of UNITECH students and alumni in Ireland. The next year promises to be a defining stage for the UNITECH community in Ireland and I am glad to be working together with Cian McGrath in these formative stages. "

"I organize regular events for alumni. In my role I keep a close contact with alumni in the Local Chapter, the university and Corporate Partners in Milan area. I wish to ease contact between alumni and encourage all of us to open to the other members, share our experiences and passions enriching one another. I believe that in this way the alumni network will contribute to the development of our persons up to our potential.
After enjoying the UNITECH experience I felt it was important to continue to contribute to the value of the program. The spirit of what UAA is doing increases my motivation and involvement. Furthermore, working together with the Council members and other LCCs is stimulating and gives me the feeling that we can influence the future of this network."

"After having joined the UNITECH Program last year and completed my exchange experience in Paris, I am glad to have the opportunity to take up together with Andrea the role of UNITECH Local Chapter Coordinator Italy. I believe to be able to bring fresh energy and continue the great work Andrea has been doing so far, creating a bigger community and increasing the commitment and involvement of all the members: alumni, CPs and the university. My focus will be the creation of events which allow the Alumni network to keep in touch with CPs, profit from the exchange of experiences and the sharing of ideas and opportunities. After this beautiful experience as student, I feel motivated to accept the new challenge of taking up the position of UNITECH Local Chapter Coordinator to give a personal contribution for the future of the UNITECH Program."

"I joined UNITECH in 2008 to have an opportunity for a challenging international experience and I never regretted it. The UNITECH program has offered the opportunity to enrich me in areas I truly believe in: competence, teamwork, cross-cultural knowledge and friendship. What stroke me most of the UNITECH program are my fellow UNITECH colleagues; talented, enthusiastic and especially open and curious people.
Joining the UNITECH Alumni Association as the Local Chapter Coordinator for the Netherlands allows me to work actively on the present and for the future of the UNITECH program. The LUC Netherlands is heading to a challenging situation as no academic partner is in the program for 2011/2012. The focus points for the near future is to solidify the current alumni network by proposing interesting content driven events and social get-togethers and at the same time reintegrate a Dutch academic partner in the UNITECH program, as the Netherlands is very valuable to the program and vice versa."

Giovanni Nati / LCC Netherlands

"I joined UNITECH in2009 as a challenge that I extended to myself and, if asked now, I will make the same choice: the people that I met during my experience made it much more than worthwhile, they made it AWESOME! The opportunity of being part of the team of Local Coordinators for the Netherlands chapter of the association will allow extend and deepen the experience and extend it to an active role by providing my support to the programme and the UAA.
As also described by Giovanni and Stefan, the current and future prospective of the LUC Netherlands is challenging; therefore, I will actively participate to the strengthening process of the alumni network – working to maintain the UNITECH experience spirit throughout all the events – and to the research for both a dutch CP and AP – leveraging on the skills I learnt during the UNITECH programme."

"Having joined the UNITECH program in 2009, I am very happy to be part of the UNITECH community. The diverse mix of multicultural, talented and outgoing people, makes the UNITECH experience truly unique and rewarding.
As a local chapter coordinator, I now have taken the opportunity to contribute back to the program and the UAA. The local chapter in the Netherlands is facing challenging times, because of the lack of an academic partner starting 2011/2012. Given this future discontinuity of inflow of new students in the local chapter, it will be crucial to keep the network alive by organising differentiated events in the spirit of the UAA: content, career, friendship & spirit. Another objective will clearly be to search for new academic and corporate partners."

"As the Local Coordinator for the Chapter in Spain with 66 members forming it, I can only say: UNITECH must go on! Since I joined UNITECH in 2006, it has brought me great experiencies in both personal and professional fields in a way that have contributed to expand my horizonts. From UPC Barcelona I moved to RWTH Aachen. This was the first stop of my new life being part of the UNITECH family. I did my internship at SCHOTT AG in Mainz and afterwards I joined SCHOTT Solar AG with an International Graduate Program. Luckily, my connection with UNITECH is still alive and even growing: being part of the UAA nourishes my network, curiosity and bridges past, present and future of ourselves.
I want to contribute to add value to the UAA and its Alumnis, to increase participation among Alumnis, new students, University and Corporate Partners, to give them a reason why should they keep on being Alumni and part of the Unitech of tomorrow. I encourage all the members of the LUC Spain to take part in the organisation, to be active in proposals and, above all else, to enjoy it."

"I got the opportunity to join the UNITECH program in 2009 and although time is passing I do not want to leave the UNITECH community. As a local chapter coordinator for Gothenburg I can give back energy and ideas to the program and the UAA. The people involved in UNITECH are very talented and challenging people and the network have given me many good times and experiences, by being the local chapter coordinator I hope to continue to build and develop the network in Gothenburg and Sweden. I will add my own ideas, but it would be of great value for me if you in the Gothenburg region would like to give me your input and ideas about how to develop the UAA network."

"It is my greatest honour that I was asked to join together with Silvan the role of Local Chapter Coordinator Switzerland. I am proud that I am now in the position to contribute my best to keep UNITECH’s vibrant network alive.
I have joined UNITECH in 2006 and since then my personal and professional life has been shaped and determined by the experience I made and will make with the UNITECH organization. I have been working now almost four years and it is terrifying how fast one can be absorbed by its professional intentions and targets. Very often you even miss to step back, to actually see where you are heading to and to assess if the initial target is still the objective you are aiming for. I have always considered UNITECH events such as UAA sessions, UAA general reunions or just simple LUC gatherings as a kind of retreat for getting innovative ideas or critical opinions.
A short analysis of the Local Chapter Switzerland has showed that we have an interesting mixture between Alumni from each year since UNITECH has been established, active and exciting Corporate Partners and highly motivated new students. Furthermore we have the unique opportunity of being close to the UNITECH office. Our target will be to intensify the exchange between the different parties in order to expand the impact of our network.
I am really looking forward to work together with Silvan, the UNITECH office, and the academic and corporate partners to continue the success story of the Local Chapter concept."

Gil Fischer / LCC Switzerland

"As a UNITECH student of 2008/2009, I spent my academic exchange at Ecole Centrale in Paris and stayed in this splendid town for my internship at Hilti France. For me it was no question to join the UAA network directly after my exchange year as I wanted to continue experiencing the spirit amongst the UNITECH family, to maintain the deep friendships and to establish new ones. Every UAA event I attended so far, showed to me how strong this network is and encouraged me to get involved in this vibrant organization.
This is why I am very pleased to take over the role as LCC Switzerland together with Gil. I see it as a chance to give back some of the energy I could take out of UNITECH and pass it over to other alumni. We are in the lucky position to have the UNITECH office in town and want to pass its driving force to the local chapter. I am confident that Gil and I will manage the challenge to reunite the widely spread LUC CH with more than 60 members from all UNITECH years. I am very much looking forward to being an active part in the UAA!"
