November 12, 2008: Berlin
Six of us were invited by Evonik Industries to their Science-To-Business Awards ceremony in Berlin. We had the chance to broaden our network because Alexandra and her team also invited 20 other European students from 8 different countries Together we started the event with a river cruise on the Spree. While going past Germany's new capital buildings and historic sights we were enjoying nice food and drinks. Even after a failure of the boat's electricity the atmosphere was still electric. The next day a workshop on communication and creativity was given by our CP coach Alexandra. We were joined by Prof. Drauz, who gave us a deeper insight into innovation management at Evonik. It was great to hear from his practical experiences about the issues discussed. Thanks to Alexandra we saw some well know slides from David Ward again and had to smile about icebergs, coins and the Swedish underground pineapples. The final highlight was the awards ceremony on Wednesday, which was held inside the Axica forum next to the Brandenburg gate. We were amazed by the breathtaking architecture of Frank Gehry and the marvelous interior. The event was hosted by a professional moderator and accompanied by the swinging jazz music of Rebecca Bakken. For the 100000€ prize itself, three researchers were nominated. The happy winner was Dr. Paul Dalby, who works in London on bio-catalysis for chiral amin-diols. After he got his fat cheque we got our delicious dinner. Since we were scattered throughout the room we had a chance to get in touch with several high ranking Evonik managers and other top researchers sitting on our tables. For deserts and drinks we left the tables and strolled around to meet more people. We stayed even after the bus left to finish the evening in style and left only after the Evonik cocktails were gone.

October 26, 2008: Germany
Thanks to Evonik, and especially Alexandra Schwarz, 9 of us were able to enjoy the exciting football match between Dortmund and Berlin together with Olivier from Evonik. According to the German football tradition we started our journey at 13.00 with a "Frueshoppen". After less than 3 hours of traveling through the Ruhr-area with hot topic conversations we arrived at the stadium and were truly impressed by the well-located seats we had, looking directly at the "suedtribuene", the main fan block of the home team. Thanks to Kati we discovered that we even had access to the Evonik lounge, where we found everything a football fan needs: Tasty food, draft beer and a cozy atmosphere. Waiting for the late train home, we even took the chance to socialize a bit with some Berlin fans.
Thanks a lot for a 12 hour experience, which we enjoyed a lot.
Your LUC Germany
PS: By the way, the game ended 1-1

The most important yearly event of the UNITECH alumni association was a definite success. We would like to welcome the 61 new (associate) alumni into our midst and hope they will value their membership in the upcoming years.
The annual reunion marked a lot of highs:
- The hot-topic discussion on 'Climate Change' gathered alumni as well as academic and corporate partners, and made us all consider the goals of politics with respect to economic evolution; but also understand the view of big new-comers like China into the whole climate change debate.
- Another lively debate took place afterwards in the basement of the Vertex Building, namely the UAA General Assembly. The discussions about the future of the UAA, the financial status, our special project, etc. will be summarised in the GA minutes, and will be sent out to you soon.
- The UAA Graduation party took place in a VIP room in the Sunset Dance Club, which was also located in the Maremagnum. Not only the new students and the alumni were to be found on the dance floor, but also corporate and academic partners were enjoying the beat.
- The brunch on Saturday took place at the beach of Barcelona. Nice food, a lot of water, and the occasional sand storm made us fit for a relaxing afternoon.
- The cava tasting event gave us insight into the world of bubbles, tastes and luxury. 6 different cava's were presented by an expert and wine consultant from the Costa Brava, and even though Cava is not Champagne, we now know that this is just the matter of price.
- And for the die-hards ... a biking tour throughout Barcelona... The perfect end, to a perfect weekend.

May 22-24, 2005: Madrid
On the last weekend of May, a group of UNITECH Alumni gathered in Madrid in occasion of the UAA Spring Event 2008! The event was a great success and gave the participants the possibility to enjoy the Spanish life: we ate tapas, listened to some real Flamenco (in a small bar filled up with local people), toured the city, had a course of Flamenco dance, tasted Paella and Sangria and had a lot of fun! ...in a real UNITECH spirit.

January 11-12, 2008: Zurich
Within the UNITECH Mid Term Week 2008, which was hosted by the ETH in Zurich, the Alumni Association organized the final party after the Closing Dinner on February 11th. The party took place at the famous Pur Pur club and lounge in downtown Zurich right after we had left the Uto Kulm top of Zurich location. It was a really great experience seeing our stuffed raclette cheese bellies shaking according to the beats in the club! On Saturday, the Alumni Association took the UNITECHERS 07/08 for a sight seeing tour through the lovely city centre of Zurich. We started at the Bahnhofstrasse - the famous shopping street - where everyone could kill his hang over appetite with the best hot chocolate in town... Afterwards we went seeing the Lindenhof, Paradeplatz, head quarters of UBS and Credit Suisse, Limmat, lake of Zurich, Niederdörfli and we finished the tour with a city famous sausage "vom Fordere Sterne"! Pity for those who missed it!
